Las Medias

Las Medias is one of the poorest communities with whom PEH partners.  When we first started visiting the school, there were two teachers taking care of 80 children.  In this community, for many years, children did not attend school because there was an individual in the village that threatened the lives of any child who attended.  After several years of having very few children attend school, the individual was put in prison, and the families began to feel a sense of relief that their children could begin school.  When we stepped into the classroom for the first time when children were present, there was hardly a space to walk.  Desks were crammed into one classroom to accommodate the number of children in 1st through 6th grade, while the Kinder children held class on the porch of another building that was unsafe to use.

PEH knew that this community needed to hear a message of hope and love, especially after all the things they had been through in previous years.  In God's perfect timing, we began work in July of 2024, to make the building that was unsafe a place where children could learn without the fear of being hurt.  It would also become a place that would allow the children to spread out and not be crammed into one small space.  Currently, there are three teachers at Las Medias, and we give God thanks!  Melody, the Director, Marvin, and Dilcia, the Kinder teacher, are making sure the children at Las Medias are loved and taught about the great love that our Father has for them.  In addition, a community leader, Isabel, has been such an encourager and source of help in the school.  He comes EVERY DAY to assist Melody.  The children love and respect him, and we can see why.  He is a very humble man who loves the Lord, and it shows as he is interacting with the children and all the teachers.  As the director, Melody has also been very intentional and excited about sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ at Las Medias.  We know that in this community, the teachers are making a difference, and God is using them to build His Kingdom.
