San Francisco

San Francisco is up the mountain from La Laguna.  Teresa and Dennis first visited the school in July of 2025.  After visiting the school, and meeting the teacher, Leslie, there was no doubt that this school was to become a PEH school in 2026.  When we arrived to the classroom, all the children, Kiinder thru 6th grade were seated.  Currently, there is not a Kinder teacher in this village, and there are approximately 60 children who are on the class list.  Fifteen of these children are in the Kinder class.  Wow!  Can you imagine teaching all those children and all those ages all at once.  Leslie is simply amazing!

There are two things that stood out to us  The first Leslie has a deep love for the Lord.  As soon as we entered the classroom, the children began singing praises to God.  In July, at the teacher conference, we were privleged to hear her testimony and how excited she is to be teaching the children at San Isidro about the love of our God.  The second thing is so evident is her deep love for others, especially the children of San Francisco.  Leslie lives out the Great Commandment. . .Mark 12:28-31:  "One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating.  Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, 'Of all the commandments, which is the most important?'  'The most important one,' said Jesus, 'is this: 'Hear, O Israel:  The Lord our God, the Lord is one.  Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.  The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."

Leslie has been very proactive in discerning what the children at San Francisco need, and then, finding ways to meet those needs.  She has started a garden to help provide for the children at school, and with the help of the community, has remodeled several buildings.  One building has been changed into a kitchen where food can be prepared each day.  Leslie's vision is for food to be cooked at the school, rather than in the homes of the children.  First, this will ensure sure that the food is being prepared in such a way that it does not contain harmful bacteria.  Second, she would like to also help the parents of the children learn how to provide variety and add seasonings in the food that is prepared.  In 2025, Peña de Horeb, our partner in ministry who actually began the feeding program (called the Matthew Project,),  started to provide food for the children in San Francisco.  In 2026, they will officially become a PEH school and will also receive Vitamins and Anti-parasites, as well as school supplies for the children and teachers.  What a joy it is to be serving alongside Leslie and the community of San Francisco.  We are looking forward to what God has in store for this community, as we continue to build relationships and share the love of Christ..
