Mecatales
Mecatales is not too far from the church in Ottuta that Honduras Evangelical Association built. The teacher, Erika, is absolutely amazing! We remember the first time that we met her. We asked her what we could do to support her and the children she was teaching. She told us that the most important thing that the children need is food. It was this conversation that began the vision for beginning a food program in the schools. Audrey, with HEA, has been our mentor and encourager as we prayed about how to begin feeding the children in our schools. Then, Audrey introduced us to Pastor Kenny Posas from Peña de Horeb, who provided the vision. Once again, God was at work. Pastor Kenny through discernment from God began the Matthew Project, and then, he came alongside PEH and partnered with us to provide a meal in all of our schools each day that the children are present. The partnerships that we have developed are beyond anything that we could have humanly put together. God is at work in BIG ways, and we are thankful to all those who are walking alongside us in ministry.

There are approximately 37 children at Mecatales. As far as projects, the only thing that Erika was concerned about was the playset. We sanded it and painted it to make it last longer and look brand new! We will continue to monitor things that may be needed at Mecatales, but are focused now on spreading the Gospel and lifting Erika up in prayer as she continues to do what God has called her to do.
Erika is currently teaching all of the children in Mecatales, Grades 1-6. There has been a Kinder teacher in the past, and there is a building designated for teaching the little ones. However, this year, there is no teacher, and there are no small children attending school. In smaller communities this is not odd. Erika smiles and just continues to do what God has called her to do. . teach the ones that come to her. We give thanks to God for bringing us to Mecatales and for using Erika to help us discern the needs of His children. We also give thanks to God for Erika, who continues to do what God tells her to do, despite the obstacles that lie ahead. It is through God that she gains her strength, and it is in Him that she puts her trust. One day at a time. One moment at a time. One child at a time. God is using her to make a difference.
