San Miguel

The story of San Miguel is one of great faith.  Dennis and Teresa met Alba, the first teacher at San Miguel, in 2017.  She was teaching school out of a room that her husband had built onto their house.  The children in San Miguel were either not going to school, due to the long distance or they had to walk, or they were making the trip each day, spending several hours walking.  Alba saw a need.  She sought the Lord, and then, she got permission to begin teaching out of her house.  She prayed, and God answered.  Alba has faith that moves mountains!  She lives out the kind of faith that Jesus speaks of in Matthew 17:20, and she proclaims her faith and trust in the Lord by continually giving Him praise in all things and sharing Him with the children she is teaching.

In God's timing and God's way, a new school was built on the property right beside her home and with the help of the Mayor of Cabanas, Jose Alcalde.  There is no doubt that God was at work.  He brought together so many people, at just the right time, and in just the right place, to provide for His children in San Miguel.  He also started friendships and partnerships that continue today and are growing stronger, as we all work together to spread the Gospel in the mountains of Honduras.

The new building was dedicated in July of 2024 and continues to be such a blessing to the community.  Since that time, Alba has moved on to another school where PEH is serving.  There are two teachers at San Miguel, Celia, who is the Director and teaches 1st through 6th grade, and Carmen, the Kinder teacher.  San Miguel is our smallest school with approximately 25 children.  We are thankful for Celia and Carmen and their dedication to continue the vision that Alba started in San Miguel of spreading the Gospel and making sure that children who live in the community of San Miguel are able to go to school and get an education, as well as learn about Jesus.
