Miramar

Miramar is way up the mountain through Santa Rita, Cabañas, and then Old Town.  It is quite a drive, but it is so beautiful!  However, with it being at such a high elevation, if it rains, there is always a risk of not being able to get back down the mountain.  Miramar was also one of the first villages that Dennis and Teresa visited.  The first thing that was noticed was the many safety issues.  The school was very old and maintenance was non-existent.

When we first began visiting at Miramar, there were close to 90 children on the role.  In fact, at one point, there were 25 Kinder children crammed into a very small space that was more like a closet.  There was no room to even walk.  Needless to say, the safety issues took a toll on the number of children who were attending school.  There were two buildings.  The big adobe building, that was once an amazing structure, was coming down. . .literally.  At any moment, the structure could have collapsed while children and teachers were using it.  In addition to the adobe building, there was a classroom made of blocks that needed repairs.

In 2025, God's timing came to fruition, and PEH was able to begin construction on a new building with the help fo the Mayor of Cabañas, Jose Alberto Salazar.  The children met in the community center and some houses in the community so that construction could take place.  The old adobe building was completely torn down.  Then, in October of 2025, the renovations were made to the block building, and a huge paint job was set in motion.  There is now a brand new, big building at Miramar. . .three classrooms to be exact., as well as a renovated block building,  The children can learn in safe buildings.  We are thankful for the community and teachers that helped to build the new building, and who came out to help paint.  We are also very thankful for Confesor, who watched over the construction and did much of the work.  The children started the 2026 school year in new classrooms that are beautiful and safe.

There are four teacher position at Miramar:  Manuel, the Director; Floridalmo, TBA, and TBA.  Miramar is also fortunate to have individuals in the community who assist as well.  They have approximately 70 children.  However, we are expecting more children to return to school as the new building opens.  The dedication of the new building was on Thursday, February 5th.  We are so excited about what God is doing at Miramar!  He has provided mightily as the teachers stay committed to Him, His Word, and the growth of His Kingdom through the children in their classrooms.
